A gentler, quieter kind of making — for those who want to create without the clay.
Book on WhatsAppCeramic painting begins where pottery ends. Instead of shaping clay, you choose a piece that has already been formed and fired once, and you paint it. What that removes is the technical hurdle. What it leaves is colour, pattern and the pleasure of filling a surface — which for a lot of people is the part they actually came for.
You start by choosing your blank from our bisque shelf: mugs, plates, bowls, small dishes, ornaments and seasonal shapes. Then you paint with underglazes, which are ceramic pigments that stay true through firing and are food safe once glazed. Our team shows you how the colours behave, how to layer them, and how to keep edges clean.
There is no wet clay and no mess beyond a paint palette, which is why this session suits children, larger groups and anyone who would rather sit and talk while they work.
This is our most accessible workshop and the one families choose most often. It works for children from around four upward with an adult nearby, for grandparents, and for mixed-age groups where a wheel session would leave someone out. It is also the format we use most for birthday parties and celebrations, because everyone can be seated at one long table and the pace is entirely their own.
Adults who assume painting is the simpler option are often surprised by how absorbing it becomes. Ninety minutes disappears quickly when you are working out how to finish a rim.
We clear-glaze your painted piece and fire it in our kiln. The glaze seals the underglaze permanently, brings the colours up, and makes the piece food safe, dishwasher safe and watertight. Collection is usually two to three weeks later and we message you on WhatsApp when it is ready.
Larger blanks and premium shapes are available at an additional cost, and we are happy to show you the range when you arrive.
Ceramic painting at ROA Art starts at AED 110 per person for a 1.5 hour session. That includes your bisque piece, all underglazes, brushes and tools, guidance from our team, and the clear glazing and firing that make the finished piece food safe. Larger or premium blanks are available at additional cost. Sessions are by appointment — message us on WhatsApp to arrange a time.
From around four years old with an adult sitting alongside. Ceramic painting is our most family-friendly workshop because there is no wet clay, no wheel and no time pressure — children work at their own pace on a piece they chose themselves. We host birthday parties and school groups regularly and can adjust the blanks and session length to suit the age of the group.
Yes. We use ceramic underglazes, not craft paint. After your session we coat the piece in a clear food-safe glaze and fire it in our kiln, which fuses everything into a glass-hard surface. The finished mug, plate or bowl is food safe, dishwasher safe and watertight, and the colours will not fade or wash off with use.
Yes — ceramic painting is the format we use most for birthdays, celebrations and group bookings, and we can seat groups at one long table. We can also bring the workshop to your home or venue anywhere in the UAE. Message us on WhatsApp with your group size and date and we will put together the details.
By appointment. Send us a date and how many are coming.
